Filled

Friday, June 5th, 2009

It’s been full around here lately.

Let’s see.

We’ve been to the McD Drive-thru for breakfast, had another round of swim lessons, was at the Church’s New Friends Nite for dinner, visited a close family friend at the hospital, and I made a yummy-licious, super-creamy cheesecake.

And we haven’t yet started on the next item down the list of holiday activities – cookie-baking, catching the Hannah Montana movie and a trip to visit the Girls’ cousins in Tambunan.

Wow.

Also, I’ve been fiddling around with the multiple functions in my camera, and in particular the one to do with portrait picture taking.

Alas, I have tried uploading some of the shots for the 1000th time but IT JUST WOULDN’T UPLOAD. And then my Firefox shuts down. Grrrrr.

Later then.

Be back soon.

I’m Busy

Tuesday, March 24th, 2009

And I know everybody is.

I wish I was Bree, who gets everything done perfectly every time and ON time. But I’m not. I wish I was some Supermom who can come up with the most super creative ideas and is a super budget keeper that her Kid will have a super birthday party. But I’m not. I wish I had 25 hours a day, 8 days to a week and 367 days in the year to be  everything to everyone. And I don’t.

And when one blogs, they’re supposed to post something of value to their readers and to the wider blogosphere. And I can’t.

I need coffee.

Is it really necessary..?

Wednesday, March 4th, 2009

Big Sis excitedly showed me a leaflet / registration form to sign up for some computer grade exam. (She likes all kinds of registrations that look like she’ll win something. Competitive much?) “All the Kids at school are doing it!” says She.

But don’t you already have Computer lessons as part of your curriculum? asks Me. I’m sure grade exams are part of the lessons, no? Then I remembered that during Parents Briefing at the beginning of the year, the Discipline Teacher bragged mentioned how this school has won top place nation-wide (or state-wide, I can’t remember) for three consecutive years.

So I googled. As most parents do these days, doncha’llknow. No? Ok.

So here’s this ‘wonderful opportunity to try’ as quoted from a paragraph in the registration form.

I don’t know.

It sounds like a lot of pressure for a soon-to-be 8 year old. School work alone is a lot to handle everyday. My Kids are not computer nor IT illiterate as the leaflet seemed to imply regarding the opportunities presented through this ‘grade exam’. The Older Two Girls do online Mandarin tutorial for goodness sake. And my 4 year old is already playing Playhouse Disney Channel computer games online. Big Sis even knows to IM Uncle Bob from overseas!

The Hubby would say, why not? The Child says, come on Mommy, everyone’s doing it! (For reasons other than learning new skills I believe.) And the School says, yay, another top prestigious title on the shelf.

I don’t know.

I forgot to watermark my Wordless Wednesday photo so I’m guessing it’s already gone out all the way round the world.

Have since updated that post. Tsk.

On the roads…

Friday, June 27th, 2008

At 6:30am, there are less people driving cars where there are no school-going young people riding in them.

At 7:00am, there is no Police Officer directing traffic at the roundabout that is usually congested at that time.

And… less people filling up at petrol kiosks.

Hmmm…

No Fuel for 3 Days??

Wednesday, June 25th, 2008

Apparently, by the time I got a phone call at roundabout 3:30pm today, many people have already been receiving text messages about an impending petrol strike that will see kiosks closing for 3 days.

Called The Hubby and before I was able to put a word in, he asked if there are news of another petrol price increase because the roads were congested and people seemed to be heading towards the nearest petrol kiosks.

Later in the evening at roughly 7:40pm I received a text message from my Mobile Service Provider that there was no truth to the rumors. The public was asked not to panic.

At the same time, local news report that the Petroleum Dealers Association threatened to go on strike by shutting down operations of 3,500 outlets for eight hours on June 26th.

I decided not to drive out to refill my tank because my closest kiosk was 15 minutes away and with all the congestion on the road I figure I would burn more fuel just being stuck in the queue. The Hubby tried to stop at a kiosk nearest to him but couldn’t get in even after an hour. In the end he decided to conserve the fuel and head home, weaving through traffic. It took him another hour or so before reaching our front porch.

Chaos. Panic.

Something is wrong with this picture.

Fuel Rush

In the meantime, the Girls occupy themselves with 3D Soccer on Mommy’s cellphone. :-P

Finally the Hubby get to fill up for our car.

From today, what used to be RM80 for a full tank will now cost abt RM120.  8O

Going Green

Tuesday, March 18th, 2008

Ok folks, I too would like to do my bit on saving the Environment for future generations. Of course, there are many ways to do just that and I will pace myself before going all out. Hehehe… ;-) )

My first step is to ’say No to Plastics’… err, that is, to Plastic Grocery Bags. *Bertimbun sudah bah di rumah juga. Bikin semak ja!* So I already bought those re-usable Tote Bags from Giant Supermarket and have been consciously informing Check Out Cashiers that you may put my groceries in the Tote Bag please.

Have you seen those bags on the Giant shelves yet? Ada sign besar-besar lagi bilang “Use Giant Recycle Bags!” gitu. Hehe…

Here’s the thing. Orang2 Supermarket ni pula yang macam nda tau pamacam pakai itu benda! (The folks at the Supermarket didn’t seem to know the practise for the ‘green’ bags) I had one Cashier ask me, “har?? taruh dalam sini?? Ohh… *with a delayed tone* … Bah…” (Er, put these in here…? Oh, okayy..)

So how?? ;-p

School Holidays Activity

Monday, March 17th, 2008

Ok, here’s another area in the whole Full-Time-Mommy-Homemaker career that I could kick up a notch – coming up with activities for the children to do during school holidays!

As this is my first experience being at home the WHOLE DAY with them for a WHOLE WEEK, I only managed the classics; drawing, painting and making a mess playing. :-p
Here’s a drawing from imagination…
And here’s the real thing…
Looks pretty similar huh? ;-) ) One day, I caught Miss Mel on one side of a small table and the Youngest One on the other side. And I heard a ‘toot’ sound every so often. Then I realised One was being the Cashier at the Checkout Counter of Giant Supermarket. ;-P
Here are some of their Masterpieces…
Meanwhile… the Mommy’s been busy too. Yup. Uhuh. Experimenting with Dishes and Baking. Oh yeah. *does a little dance* Here are some of the things I’ve made since. All photos taken by a Digital Cam unless otherwise noted. Hence the quality. :-p
That’s the Tiramisu, Rock Melon Salad and Cup Cakes. I actually took Food & Nutrition for SPM, so some techniques and the science are still intact. Cool Daddy is the official food taster and so far his reviews have been positive. Then again, he IS Cool Daddy, so…
Will let you know when any of my ‘art’ receives more acclaim. :-p
Now for some more practise!
