Middle Sis forgot her purse at home one day this week, so I got the Hubby to send it over to her at school.

Hubby got there, went to her class, asked permission for her to come out of the class and gave her her purse. Upon leaving, Hubby heard a distant laughter from the kids.

Middle Sis proceeded to report to me when she got home from school that when she had got her purse and returned to her seat, some classmates asked her “who was that?” And she told them he was her Daddy. Her friends laughed out loud.

“Ohh… We thought he was your ‘Gong Gong’!”

That’s Grandfather in Chinese.

Middle Sis then said, “It’s Daddy’s hair bah…”

Hehe…

*UPDATE: In case anyone’s wondering, I DID get Hubby’s permission to post this. ;-)

And it’s Friday again…

Friday, February 27th, 2009

I let loose and chill a little by the time Friday comes. I don’t rush about the house doing my chores and as you can see, I even take my sweet time to post an entry here.

And Friday is also when I like to think about the week that’s past and what has since gone on in the life of my Kids, my Husband and mine.

This week my Youngest learned the phonics for the letter ‘G’ and has been going about the house singing her phonics song. The thing I love about her doing it is she does it with such gusto! Especially when it comes to producing the sound of the alphabet. Very… um, pronounced.

The Older Two Girls got their test results this week, and my Eldest proudly announces to Daddy she got a Full score on her Maths, which was in English AND Chinese. Both Mommy & Daddy are quite impressed, again because she doesn’t take extra lessons in Chinese from a tutor. She also scored the highest in her class for English. (Of course..)

Middle Sis too scored some impressive A’s and B’s for a first time primary school non-kindie type of academic assessment. Loved how her eyes shone when she was showing me an A paper in Science, which was again, in Chinese AND English. I congratulated her and told her she did very well. Her smile shone as bright as her eyes.

On the way home today after sending the Children off at school, I told the Hubby, now would be a good time to introduce learning to play a Musical Instrument into their schedule. Maybe the Guitar since they see it everyday at home.

As for The Hubby and I, after dropping the Kids off at school we have breakfast together at different places and I treasure these times of unhurried chats and talking about everything under the sun. Telling each other everything like a couple of best buddies is the cornerstone of our relationship. I guard this jealously.

So now comes the weekend. Believe it or not, I PLAN on the weekends. Or rather, on the beginning part of the weekend. Plan the meals for the week ahead, plan every member of the family’s schedule, take inventory of my  pantry, fridge and freezer.

After which I close my Planner and hang with the Kids and the Hubby for the rest of the weekend.

It’s a good life. I’m thankful to the Lord for it.

American Idol from the dining table.. My take.

Thursday, February 26th, 2009

Ok, this time, I have got my, ahem, signature Beef Lasagna on the table ready for digging in as we watch American Idol. The Girls, bless their little hearts, have agreed to switch over from Disney Channel and are huddled in front of the TV gulping mouthfuls of pasta to watch the show with Mama. The Hubby’s getting ready to go out to Church for Music practice but he’ll be able to catch some performances before he goes.

I’m really keen to see how Norman Gentle or Nick Mitchell (whatever his name) does it tonite. :-P

Ok. Here it comes!

Jasmine – Umm. Dia nervous ka ni? I’m kinda expecting better. As Randy often said it, “Nothin’ to shout about dawg..” Ok, so I see the judges are with me.

Matt - *Note to Uncle Bob. Kalamazoo guy. ;-) Uh oh. Guess his forte is still the piano. I’m with Kara on this one.

*sigh* It’s tough to have to be the first few…

Jeanine - Ya la, ya la, she got nice legs. Not sure how America will vote for her though…

Ah, here he is. Si Gentle. Tonite he’s Nick Mitchell pula :-P – LoL. Aduuh. He’s good vocally. But somehow it’s funny watching him.

Allison - Betul ka dia ni sixteen years old?? She rocked it yo! Yup, she’s one to watch. ;-)

Kris - I think Michael Jackson songs is a risky route to take. I love how this guy made it his own though!

Megan Joy - I was kinda rooting for her a little bit being the recently divorced (or divorcing) single mom that she is, but I hope America will not vote her out based on tonight’s performance. She needs another chance to find her voice.

Matt - My Hubby thought he was a bit ’safe’. Interesting that Randy said almost to the same effect. I think he’s got that rocker in him that he should put out so it would fit his song, but he’s holding it in for some reason. Macam sentimental rocker bah dia ni. Hehe…

Jesse - She does look better than she did during her audition and her time at Hollywood. And she sang much better than she did the last time too I thought. Not sure what America thinks la.

Kai - Good karaoke no?

Mishovanna - I think the judges had a much higher expectation from a former contestant and that’s fair enough. Vocally she’s got it. Performance wise I think she’ll be a 50-50, given again that she had gone through the process once before.

Adam - You go Boy! I think he got it right when he said that he needed to internalize rather than heighten his stage persona. Get that on pat and we’ll see him into the finals!

My cards? Adam and Allison. Can’t decide on a third lah.

We’ll know tomorrow. (If there are no changes.)

What’s yours? ;-)

Any time is a good time for Skin Resolutions

Thursday, February 26th, 2009

My daughter said this to me the other day. “Mommy, you’re so beautiful and I love you so much. I love you with your makeup, and I love you with no make-up.” I’m sure she said it with all sincerity. But it made me make a mental note to look presentable even in front of my kids. Maybe even ESPECIALLY presentable when they’re in sight.

So, if you’re a Mom like me who stopped wearing make-up when the kids came along, the least we could do is take good care of our skin. I have started wearing make-up again but only to Sunday Service and to special occasions like weddings or a dinner date. Good skin however is a beauty that lasts.

Found a great article by Jo-Lynne of Musings of a Housewife that I thought was good to follow or at least consider following. Here’s one I never knew!

10. Avoid drinking out of straws. We know that the reason for lines and wrinkles is from sun damage, but it’s also caused from facial expressions. (Think smiling as the cause of crow’s feet around the eyes.) So when drinking out of a straw, you have to purse your lips which causes unnecessary wrinkles and lines around the mouth. If you’re concerned about lines and wrinkles, then drinking directly from the glass is a much better option. Save that expression for kissing!

Did y’all know that about drinking out of straws??

I’ll give you the link to the article in a moment. But before we get there, just thought I’d share with you that -

I’m good with #9 (I knew about using the ring finger too..), #8 and #7.

I haven’t done #6 for a while now. Erk. I’m doing it after this!

#5 is Reminder, Reminder, Reminder. Sometimes kan, gatal bah the fingers. It just gets to me when the bump comes on. Tsk!

Er, for #4, who has time to go round collecting those ingredients when we’re busy Moms?? But then, we blog. So…

I have a #3. I just wish they didn’t come in such a small bottle for such a hefty price! Maybe that’s why we need to go round…

And finally, I’m good with #2 and #1 too.

Oh, and you will notice from the article that the writer recommends the Renée Rouleau range, which I don’t think we have here in KK. I’m guessing we could find similar products from the ranges that are available in town.

Now head on over to Skin Resolutions to read what I’m talking about, and when you have, come back here and tell me what you think!

So, what do you think? ;-)

B(y)t(he)w(ay)…

Wednesday, February 25th, 2009

See, I had to do that because my Mom said to me recently, “apa bah ni BTW?” (”what on earth is BTW??”) to a text message on her cellphone. I’m sure all you faithful readers already knew that. But just in case…

Did you notice the cute little ‘handwritten’ signature on my recent posts? Adds a nice little personal touch ya?

Go get One. It’s quite simple. Just follow the instructions.

Have fun!

Don’t Follow Me!

Tuesday, February 24th, 2009

I’m having problems with my Twitter account.

You see, I set up two Twitter accounts – one linked to this blog and the other for Twittering with friends and family.

I know. My bad.

I’m trying to rectify the situation and its proving to be quite a feat what with Twitter making the process of deleting an account difficult.

As such, you won’t be able to follow me on Twitter for a while.

I’ll let you know once we’re up and running.

Blessings,

Clean out my closets.. yup.

Tuesday, February 24th, 2009

simplifyTime to talk about Simplifying again.

Here’s today’s topic.

Clean out my closets.

We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give. – Winston Churchill

Items that have been stored in your closets for more than a year are merely taking up space and making it more difficult to find the things you need. So what can you do with all those “don’t quite fit”, “not exatly new”, “way too good to throw away” items?

There are many wonderful non-profit agencies that can provide a way to put those annoying leftovers to good use across the nation and around the world. Chances are there is one such enterprise near you. Cleaning out your closets can lighten your load and allow you the pleasure of knowing you are helping to meet the needs of others – a wonderfully liberating experience.

Give what you cannot use to gain what you cannot buy!

When I first read through this chapter, the thought I had in my mind about closets were of clothes. Then I realised the paragraph began with ‘items’. In all likelihood, we’re also talking about such things as shoes, maybe cushion covers and other types of linen. I even went so far to think about the ‘closets’ in my kitchen and the stuff I could very well do without taking up space in them nooks! But let’s not go there…

I was able to clean out my Husband’s side of the wardrobe the past week and found some shirts that he hadn’t worn for some time because he had wanted to reserve them for ’special occasions’. Well, the sort of occasion he had in his mind never came, so I’ve taken them out and put them on the Work Wear line. When he saw what I did, he shrugged and said, “Yea, I guess you could do that..” Uhuh. So now I don’t HAVE to get for him the blue and beige shirts that I had set my eyes on at the mall. Or maybe I will. We’ll see.

Another thing I want to get to are the shoes. When my Mom was in the USA some years ago, she got hold of some really cute footwear for my young ones. And now I’m hesitant to dispose of them because One, they’re soo cute. Two,  shoes like those cost HUGE much more in our Malaysian Ringgit. They hold such sentimental value. *sigh* I don’t know. Tsk.

I once heard a preacher tell us, “Try cleaning out your wardrobe and donating some of the clothes you no longer wear. You will find that pretty soon, clothes begin to miraculously fill up the wardrobe again!”

How true.

What say you?

I’m planning a party…

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

*UPDATE: Check out our Rockin’ good time. ;-)

A Hannah Montana one for Big Sis and three of her bestfriends during the March mid semester break. She had initially wanted an Ariel themed birthday complete with the underwater world going on. *Note to Aunty Nonie: “Are you coming to my party in March?” asks Big Sis. Er, Mommy’s not sure about that Sweet.

Thanks to the wonders of Google I’ve found lots of ideas on putting such a party together. Now ALL I need to do is go round compiling stuff. Ahem. Of course, there’s still school rounds in the meantime, laundry loads in the meantime and that 1st March event at church in the meantime. All that jazz. Fun.

Anyhoo. Check out these cupcakes I found off the Internet.  How cute are they ha? Looks like lots of artificial colorings, but still…

I’ve emailed Deana of Deana Cakes fame to see if she can replicate these for Big Sis. We’ll see what she says.

Mom: Whatchu drawing Honey?

Little Girl: I’m drawing God.

Mom: Don’t be silly Sweetheart. Nobody knows how God looks like.

Little Girl: Well they will, when I’m done.
