Deck The Malls…

Friday, November 28th, 2008

Big Sis has started gift-shopping with the money she’s saved since she got excited about her very own coin box. She’s saved RM40 in total and a list that numbers 23 names. So we sat down and got our creative caps on and came up with a plan for her to pick out a gift she thinks her recipient would like in the region of Rm2-3, and I would chip in for the wrappers and sellotapes. This met her approval and I could see that she was very pleased she had made the effort earlier in the year to save for Christmas gifts. ;-)

Ironically, ME has yet to start on MY gift list! *gasp*

And while we were out shopping last night, we caught some wonderful Christmas scenes that certainly got MY attention to say the least!

Ok. Let me get my list out now. :-P

Of Books and Such

Monday, November 24th, 2008

So, Middle Sis got some of her textbooks for next year during her Orientation Week and I spent a considerable amount of time last week repairing & wrapping them. In fact, I even had to erase a previous student’s scriblings.

Deja vu! I remember doing the same thing for my school books when I was younger.

The Hubby was not too pleased at the condition of some of the books that Middle Sis ‘inherited’ for next year as I had taken the time to wrap Big Sis’ books this year. We returned the books to the school in good condition.

On the bright side, I was able to recycle some of Big Sis’ book wrappers for Middle Sis’ books. Which meant that instead of spending twice the amount on book wrappers, I’ll be spending only half the amount, if any. Not too bad huh?

Schedule wise, life’s a little less frantic for now. For which I am thankful. That’s not to say it isn’t ’spice-ful’ in our home, but at least we’re not rushing from one place to another. Yet.

I do realise that Christmas is round the corner and activities pick up full swing for us around this time of the year. Hence, I am enjoying the slower pace of life while it is.

And look, here are some stuff The Sister got for the Children that will keep them plenty occupied!

Year One

Friday, November 21st, 2008

And so today completes Middle Sis’ Year One Orientation Week.

We’re happy to report that she had a good week. She settled into class well, was very courteous and greeted her Class Teacher with the standard Good Morning greeting that she had gotten used to in Kindergarten, and came home everyday excitedly reporting to us all the new things she had learned that day.

Here she is all geared up and ready to go. Doesn’t she look like such a Big Girl in the Blue & White now? *sigh*

Ok, so I was that Mommy who fusses over her kid, and took some early morning pictures of my kid settling into class. :-P

I took a close-up shot of my Big Girl during Recess.

The School Principal then came round the classes and politely asked all the parents to wait downstairs.

Year One 2009, here comes Middle Sis. She is ready! ;-)

Professional Mom??

Friday, November 21st, 2008

We were at the UMS Student Ministry’s Semester Break Christmas Party last night. The Icebreaker involved getting to know 7 things about a person whose name you picked at random.

So here was this young lady asking me the required getting-to-know-you questions when another young man from Church walked by and said, “She’s not a Housewife. She’s a Professional Mom!”

Last Day

Friday, November 14th, 2008

Today marks some significant ‘last days’ for me.

It’s Middle Sis’ last day of Kindergarten. When I picked her up from school today, I took some time to bring her round to her class teachers and the school principal to give them a hug. Then we stood at the corridor of her school and said bye-bye to the school She’d been to everyday for two years. When we drove off, she waved at the school.

No more going to school for Big Sis too. School holiday 2008 begins.

Then we got to the daycare to drop off The Starring & Miss A, for the last time. I had the privilege of sending them to daycare after school everyday this year. Our rides have been short but always sweet. Had many after- school conversations together with them and with my Girls. Miss A joined us a little later into the year, so her stories had been few. But in the last two weeks, she’d been eagerly telling me all about her going-ons at school, and often times trying to beat her cousin to it!

I want to take a moment to remember these times with these Little People. I’ll miss them. :-)

School

Wednesday, November 5th, 2008

We picked up Big Sis’ Report Card from her school today. Considering she comes from a non-chinese speaking home, where excellence in the Chinese language is a prelude to good results, she did well by making it into the top 10 in her class. Hubby and I gave her an enthusiastic thumbs up!

And then we headed over to her would-be Year 2 classroom to meet her Class Teacher and to pay for her school books. Oh my! Teacher had a ‘could you not waste my time, I have better things to do than sit here and wait for you’ kind of attitude. Looks like Big Sis is set for an interesting Year 2 indeed.

Someone once told us Chinese school is tough, and the school that Big Sis and Middle Sis are going to have more than average schoolwork. I guess its true. :?

We then headed over to the Admin Office to report Middle Sis for Year 1 of 2009. It was standard procedure, similar to our experience with Big Sis last year. Middle Sis got to write her name in Chinese into the Register. ;-)

Then we gave her a tour of the school, pointing out her would-be classroom, as well as Big Sis’ classroom. Then we discussed Recess time routine. At this point, I sensed that Middle Sis is quietly coming to terms to life in Big Kid school. Oh my Baby.

The coming weeks will be a flurry of school-closing activities with going home times set to different times every other day, for different child.

The thing that’s keeping Mommy sane through all that, is bentomaking.
