Jesus Loves Me This I Know…

Tuesday, February 28th, 2006

My two older girls have started going to our Church’s Sunday School. It’s called ‘The King’s Brigade’ over here.

At first, Miss D was reluctant to leave my side to be in Sunday School. Miss Mel on the other hand, was game for it. In the pre-school class that they attend, Miss Mel is usually the youngest. So when Miss D saw Miss Mel excitedly participating in the activities, she got into it as well. Since then, it was easy to walk them to Sunday School as they look forward to going there. Of course, it helped that they saw some friends from our Small Group and from Day Care, attending as well.. ;-p

They learn their Scripture Verses by doing some actions. It was very nice to hear Miss D excitedly reciting to me ‘God is the Father who never fails us’. Everytime they can recite their memory verse out loud, their teacher gives them a star and some coupons for redeeming lovely little gifts later. ‘KB Sticker Book’ becomes a much sought after book in the run-up to Sunday!

Miss D at one time got a big coupon for going up to take the microphone to ‘give her testimony’. Her teacher later told me that she mumbled something about God bless her mom, her dad, her sister Miss Mel, her friends at Kindie, etc. etc. I told her teacher, she was actually praying her bedtime prayer! But they gave her the coupon anyway.

While we miss having them with us during the Sunday Service, Cool Dad and I are happy that they are settled into King’s Brigade. We look forward to many conversations together about the Lord and about Kids Church in times to come… ;-) )

Memory Keeping At Its Best

Monday, February 27th, 2006

Your priceless photographs are worth a thousand words. They are the first possession you would save from a fire. (I would, along with all official documents!) They are one of the most important legacies you have to pass on.

Yet, for all their importance, we put them in drawers, abandon them in cupboards, and worse, store them in albums that chemically destroy the very images they were meant to protect.

There is a way for you to preserve the past, enrich the present, and inspire hope for the future.

Let my friend show you how! Email her at cgadalon@hotmail.com. ;-) )

And my baby sits!

Sunday, February 26th, 2006

Meant to update this some time ago, but the photos weren’t ready.

Last 15 February, Spunky sat up all by herself! She is now 10 months and 21 days old.

We’ve noticed for a few days prior to that, that she’s been attempting to go on her hands and knees. And every so often when Cool Dad and I notice it, we try to get her to sit up while supporting her back.

That morning just as I was about to carry her out off her crib to take her downstairs, there she was sitting on her ‘bum-bum’ and grinning gleefully at me. She didn’t even support her weight with her hands on the floor. Yay!

Since then, she’s even learned to pull herself up in her crib and stand! Here’s my little champion…

No More Tears

Wednesday, February 22nd, 2006

Cool Daddy and I had the unfortunate experience of attending a Baby Funeral today.

It was the tiniest casket I had ever seen in my life. I cried and cried, as if the baby was my own. But by the end of the day, I felt a gentle assurance that Baby is now where he will be loved all the days of his life, where there will be no more pain and suffering, and where he will unfold and bloom to his fullest and grandest potential; in the presence of God.

I went home to my kids and hugged my girls long and tight. I especially held my baby the longest. May they know that on this side of heaven, Mommy and Daddy love them enough to make their life journey worthwhile.

As for Baby…

One of God’s sweet angels came and hushed the Baby’s cry,
On his brow is written with God’s own finger, ‘Everlasting Peace’,
In the palms of his little hand, no rough scars of earthly work shall ever stain,
On the white round feet, earth’s thorns shall never wound,
On the sealed eyelids, no tears shall wet,
On the serene lips, no cry of pain shall ever pass,
For Baby is in the arms of our great and loving God forevermore.

Birthdays at Kindie

Saturday, February 11th, 2006

When I picked Miss D up from kindie one day, she showed me a goodie pack that she got from a classmate, Isaac is his name, who celebrated his birthday that day with them.

Then, excitedly she asked me, “Mommy, can we get Isaac a birthday gift? Can? Pleeeease?”

I was impressed at her thought, so I asked her to call her Daddy to tell him what she wanted to do. Daddy was impressed too, and gave her the green light to pick a gift for Isaac at Likas Square. Later, she told us that when she gave Isaac the gift, “He said ‘thank you’.”

That was about two weeks ago.

When I picked her up from kindie yesterday, she didn’t have a goodie pack, but she excitedly told me, “Mommy, today is Jonathan Chong’s birthday! Can we get him a birthday gift?”

Again we called Daddy, Daddy said yes, and she got Jonathan Chong a sticker pack. When she got home, she wrapped the sticker pack herself. Today she gave it to Jonathan and said, “Mommy, I gave Jonathan Chong his birthday present. He ‘friend me’ today oh!”

I was telling Cool Dad, there are about 14 kids in her class and everyone has a birthday throughout the year, is she gonna get a gift for each one??

Generous juga anak saya ini… ;-) )

Chinese New Year

Friday, February 3rd, 2006

It’s the Lunar New Year, also known as the Spring Festival in China, a time when people take a break from work and return to their hometowns for sessions of feasting and family gatherings.

For us, this time of the year is usually all about family reunions, food (the one time in the year that mandarin oranges are everywhere!) and red packets. Boleh2 lah the girl’s punya ang pows.. ;-p.

This year, we had a lion dance show at my in-laws’! We were told this one is a team from the group that won the World Championship in China recently. Check out this guy high up there trying to ‘eat the vegetable’. That’s on the upper level of the house!

It was also great to have some friends from our Small Group join us at the Dinner. Had wonderful fellowship with them.

The girls donned the cheongsam this year. Don’t they look adorable??

This year we limited our visiting to just the family reunion dinner on New Year’s Eve, the First Day at an aunt’s house & dinner at my in-laws in the evening. With the long holiday break, we wanted to spend the rest of the time just being together. It’s not often we get to be home all together everyday. So this was a good time.

While driving down Penampang road one evening, we caught sight of what looked like a park. We turned in and saw the sign, ‘Rainforest Park’. The first thing the girls saw after that was the playground! Apa lagi, sukanya mereka! So we decided to stop and check it out.

To our delight, we found that overall, the park has a very pleasant surrounding. We saw people jogging, biking and just strolling around the area. It was almost like Tun Fuad Park, except that it isn’t hilly. It was nice to still be able to breathe fresh air in full view of the busy road just next to it! Tapi kenapa they only open from 5-10pm ah??

The playground covered a big space, ranging from what looked like the ‘beginner’ playground to a more ‘advanced’ hang & swing adventurous apparatus. Naturally, the girls were excited to try them out. Every so often, my heart skipped a beat as they try harder manouvers (spell check!) and still make it.

The next day we had dinner with Peng, Bernard and Belinda for a time of catching up. Peng is leaving for further studies in New Zealand, and Bernard’s in town for the CNY. So we headed over to Sedco Open Air restaurant for some seafood. After eating pork and more pork during the festivities, steamed prawns was a welcomed treat! Yum! Here’s Bernard poking fun at Miss Mel.

Overall, we had a good CNY holiday. Of course, New Year celebrations go up to fourteen days where we will once again convene for dinner. Traditionally, Chap Goh Meh is also the day young maidens throw oranges into the sea with the hope to find a good spouse in the year ahead.

Well, thank God Cool Dad is such a wonderful hubby, and I didn’t have to throw oranges to find him. ;-) )
