Party of Five

Saturday, May 28th, 2005

Yup, we’ve since become Five!

Spunky joined the party on the 5 April 2005, at 9:15am, weighing 3.28kg. Most people say she looks like the female version of her dad. Others have commented that she is a mini Miss D. I am still amazed at how beautiful and perfect she is. We finally got to see her after 9 (or thereabouts..) lonnng months, just wondering how she’d look like! I’m looking forward next to see how this One’s personality will develop alongside her Sisters, and to enjoy it, come what may! At the moment, she is a happy baby, sleeping restfully most of the time, waking only for feeds.. including at night! I am blessed!

Obviously, I have only since had the time to blog, what with the latest development in the family.

Still, I am happy to report that we’ve adjusted into the new home and loving it. Miss D took a while to say “our home” instead of “new house”, but eventually she was able to say it!

Cool Daddy is home in the evenings a lot more these days than he used to in the early years of our marriage. He watches movies and plays the guitar with the girls. I enjoy watching him do things with the kids. I wish I had more of those kinds of times with my dad. I kind of feel guilty about him not hanging out with his bowling buddies anymore. But it’s been really great to have him home more evenings than before..

We look forward to friday evenings when the Small Group meets at our house, especially when we did the 40 Day Purpose Driven Life Campaign. I most enjoy working with Cool Dad to prepare the week’s meeting. I usually do all the homework; go thru the questions from the Leader’s Guide, help him write out a proposed sequence of events, and then he takes it off and leads the discussion. Like it’s said in sports terms, it makes for a great ‘game’ every time!

Miss D is growing up right before our eyes! It’s a real pleasure to communicate with her now as she’s able to express herself with words. She is at the stage of asking the “why’s” of ALL things these days. We’ve learnt to try and answer her as honestly as possible while keeping it simple. Occasionally though, she blows our minds away when she can grasp concepts and ideas that we think is way beyond her four year old mind!

She adores her littlest sister and asks for her the minute she comes home from Play School! She would ask to carry her and lately I’ve been letting her help me with changing Spunky’s diapers cos she wanted so much to do it! “I’m a big girl now Mommy!” she says. And I tell her that yes, she is, and then lament on where has my baby girl gone??

Miss Mel still feels like the baby in the family. We are slowly calling her “Yi Che” to help smoothen her transition to her new role as BIG sister to Spunky. When she first saw the baby, she felt a little weird and awkward, and couldn’t grasp the idea that baby sister was no longer in mommy’s tummy. After about two weeks however, she began to notice her little sister more. Now, when she comes home from day care, she would ask for Spunky just as Miss D would, and she runs to either Cool Daddy or me to ask to soothe the baby when she cries. Ah, my ‘babies’!

Miss Mel’s got great imagination! She’s memorised every song and dance movements from Barbie’s “Princess & the Pauper”. In fact, she can memorise even the dialogues in that movie. She’s beginning to sing a lot more these days too. Songs she learned at Day Care, songs from their favorite movies, and of late, songs from the Praise & Worship albums her dad’s been playing in the house. Together with Big Sis, they put up quite a show!

As for Yours Truly, I could get comfortable with this stay-at-home-mom stint! Alas, I got a phone call to remind me to report for work next week! **sigh** I’ve had a fulfilling two months of maternity leave, getting to know baby Spunky. Everyday, there was something new to learn about her. And then as I learned more about her, I learned more about myself. I learned that they don’t see the world the way we do. There is such innocence and purity in the way they view the world. If only adults could retain much of that in this day and age…

Of course as soon as I recovered physically from delivery, I even managed to do some home improvement! Ahh, the joy of having my own home! Read books & surfed websites on decorating & gardening. In fact, did a lot of reading during baby’s sleep time. Even managed to watch some movies I got Belinda to lend me. Couldn’t have done all that had it not been for this break!

So, I’m grateful. Grateful to take a breather from the demands of work while heavily pregnant. Grateful to have time to recover when she finally came. Grateful to have time to enjoy baby while she’s ‘baby’. Having time to read and watch movies because she is such an easy baby is a bonus!

Still, life goes on.. To be continued… Beginning next week!
